29-Jun-2024

The 2-day Continuous Professional Development Workshop for the teachers of the Social Science Department took place on the 28th and 29th of June, 2024. The workshop focused on "Teaching Latitude and Longitude" and "Teaching Social Science through Case Studies and Documentaries." It was conducted by Dr. Chandra Shekhar Balachandran, Founder and Director of The Institute of Geographical Studies and retired Professor of Geography from Bridgewater State University, USA.

During this workshop, teachers were trained through activities that incorporated gamification in geography and the use of digital resources to teach geography interactively. The workshop also addressed how to develop questions that trigger critical and creative thinking skills based on case studies and documentaries. Teachers actively participated in the learning process and developed positive teaching strategies that they will implement in their classes to make social science a joyful subject.

An interaction session also took place between Dr. Balachandran and students of Class X ABC and Humanities students of Class XI and XII. Students discussed various aspects related to research and career options in geography as a subject. They also interacted about various interesting facts related to the implications of latitude and longitude. It was a good exposure for the students.
